Six times a number plus twice a second number is four. Twice the first number plus four times the second number is 18. Find the numbers.

equation 2. 2a + 4b = 18

equation 1 becomes -12a - 4b = -28

equation 2. remains. 2a + 4b = 18

Cancel out the b’s

-10 a = -10 (Divide both sides by -10)

a = 1

substitute 1 for a to find b
