The 1990s, only 25 adult Florida panthers remained in southern Florida. The cats were close to dying out. They needed new mates. Then, scientists moved eight female panthers from Texas to south Florida. Scientists chose Texas panthers because they are like the Florida panthers. The plan quickly paid off. Five of the eight Texas panthers had babies. They produced 15 Texas-Florida hybrid kittens. Today, scientists believe that 100 Florida panthers are living in southern Florida.
