So in this case our p, or girls in the class (which is part of the total), is unknown. We have the percentage and we have the total. So all we need to do is multipy them. However how do you multiply percentage . . . well 40 percent also equalts to 0.40. So all you have to do is multiply .40 by 35 and you have your answer.
