While Israel is not a theocracy, what part of their society is ruled by religious leaders?

Answer: Certain political and social aspects are controlled by religion in Israel

Explanation: In Israel, there is no civil marriage, only religious. Those people who are foreigners and want to marry an Israeli, cannot do so there as only Israelis can marry through religion. This is valid if the person converts to Judaism.

Another aspect that is controlled by religion in Israel is Shabbat. Shabbat in the bible is described as the day of rest and on that day all businesses must close in Israel. Transportation is not available and other local businesses. In cities like Tel Aviv, because it is the tourist center, many places remain open but are not to the liking of religious Jews.
