How might interest groups such as the National Rifle Association or Sierra Club influence politics?

I got no idea who the Sierra club are but I can explain.

People who are aligned with the NRA will more than likely always vote against gun control and a politician can take advantage of this by then saying "less gun control!" and then winning the majority votes of that group due to the politician saying that.
