What does "I have met her not now, but before, yet to be my wife, but it would be all I ask for" mean?

i think “i have met her not now, but before” means that maybe he’s had dreams and wishes about a girl like her and it seems as if they were meant to be and already know each other. he seems to be in love & want her as his wife
