Why did Abraham Lincoln change his views about enslavement during the Civil War?

The first answer is correct, the war wasn’t about preserving the union at this point and he wanted to make it known that slaves were much more than what people made them to be. The black man was as equal to the white man and wanted to abolish slavery.
