Some types of bacteria are autotrophs. Most autotrophs use a process called photosynthesis to make their food. In photosynthesis, autotrophs use energy from the sun to convert water from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air into a nutrient called glucose. The organisms that are present in the atmosphere are divided into 2 major divisions the autotrophic and the heterotrophic organisms. The autotrophic organisms are organisms that can prepare their own food by means of photosynthesis using light and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere whereas the heterotrophic organisms depend on the autotrophs for their food.
