We have worked on adding and subtracting fractions already. In those cases we needed to have common denominators. When we multiply fractions, we multiply the numerators and the denominators.

A neonatal nurse weighs a newborn baby. The baby weighs 6 3/4 pounds (lb). If the infant triples his weight in 1 year, how much should the infant weigh when he is 1 year old?
