The vertex is the minimum point (in this case). That happens when x - 1 = 0. The reason for that is because the absolute value is going to added to minus 1. The absolute value is always plus.

x - 1 = 0

x - 1+1 = 0 + 1

x = 1

So the minimum point is going to be (1,-1)
