Explanation:

First I would expand by distributing the left side.

Using distribution the new equation would be: -2x - 8 = 12

Now, I would move constants to one side and keep variables on the other side.

Doing this, my new equation would be -2x = 20

Now I would divide both sides by negative 2, giving the answer x = -10
