The two triangles are congruent so all the angle of the vertices for the smaller triangle align with the angle of the vertices for the bigger triangle. Since the triangles are the congruent, we can assume that Angle A also applies to angle C. So far, C = 5x -24. If you look carefully, C and B form a straight line (180 degrees).
180 = C + B
180 = (8x+9) + (5x-24)
180 = 13x- 15
13x = 195
x = 15
