The occasional moments of light or hope in the book serve what purpose?

They give the reader hope.
They heighten the symbol of darkness.
They highlight different characters.
They move the plot along.

They highten the symbol of darkness

explanation-

when the author throws in something hopeful or reliving it shows us just how dark things can really get. (I'm not sure if this is correct but this makes the most sense to me)

hope this helps!
