Why are there more earthquakes on the western side of Central America than on the eastern side?

Answer: right under tectonic plates

Explanation: More than 80% of earthquakes occur in an area known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 25,000-mile horseshoe shape along the north side of the Pacific Ocean. The main reason for the difference, Ebel says, is that the California coast is right above the boundary of two of the tectonic plates that make up the Earth's crust.
