In which parts of the world is an equinox most different from other days of the year?

The day of equinox is the day of sunrise or sunset at the North or South Pole. That's a big change up there, where it is dark for 6 months, then light for 6 months (approximately -- twilight lasts for several weeks before sunrise and after sunset!)
