Compare and contrast the normal distribution with the standard normal distribution. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you construct your argument.

- What is the mean and standard deviation of these distributions?
- What are the shape and characteristics of these distributions?
- How is area associated with these distributions?
- What are the values on the x-axis of the standard normal distribution called?

Answer:

Both are normal distributions but standard normal distribution is a particular case of Normal distribution when the mean is 0 and standard deviation or variance is 1. This makes Y a “Standard” distribution. So basically X is Normally distributed and Y is “Standard” normally distributed.
