Explanation:

4x+2y=7

3x-5y=-24

First either make the x or y's the same. It is easier here to make the y's the same.

Multiply each of the first equation by 5 and the second one by 2.

x5 4x+2=7 x5 = 20x+10y=35

x2 3x-5y=-24 x2= 6x-10y=-48

20x+10y=35

6x-10y=-48 +both equations

26x=-13

/26

x=-1/2

Now substitute to find y.

4(-1/2)+2y=7

-2+2y=7

+2

2y=9

/2

y= 4.5
