both the Han and roman empires were viewed as semi barbaric and they both focused on military capability. they were both materialistic states and they were both shielded by their geographical position from their great powers in the east. they were different because the Han dynasty was based on a confucian philosophy and the romans worshiped many gods and believed in strict military discipline. they had different origins.
