Since The cliff is 200 feet tall, the Jon is; 200/2 ft = 100 ft from either the top or bottom.

Now, we are told that Jon is 40 + 2x from the bottom of the cliff.

Thus;

40 + 2x = 100

Subtract 40 from both sides;

40 - 40 + 2x = 100 - 40

2x = 60

x = 60/2

x = 30 ft
