Comets are small bodies that go around/orbit the sun. A comet can also pack more damaging force than even an asteroid of the same mass. The dusty particles combined with ice and water, become the amazing beginning of a Comet.
When a comet or comets come within a certain distance of the Sun, they sublimate, which is another word for going from a solid-state to a gas without ever becoming a liquid.
