Why did slavery become so important in the south but not north

Due to agriculture purposes ,as for they are not industrialized yet until after the civil war (or maybe even later)and wouldn’t pay for workers to work there farms(just cheaper that way),so it’s easier for them to have slaves,also who would want to give away free labor(nobody) but still horrible to have slaves and shouldn’t have happened in the first place
