Explain why volcanoes form at both convergent plate boundaries and divergent plate boundaries.

Volcanoes often form along tectonic plate boundaries where oceanic plates sink beneath other plates. As a plate sinks deep into a subduction zone, it will start to heat and melt, forming something called magma. Volcanoes can also be created near tectonic boundaries where plates pull apart. This allows magma to rise up from the mantle.
