How did the Boston Massacre escalate from a small event to a larger one?

The settlers were first friendly with the British soldiers and then started arguing with them.

The massacre began with a short jail sentence and led to a death penalty for several settlers.

A heated discussion between settlers and British soldiers led to gunshots and fatalities.

A child got angry with the British soldiers. Then, more and more people started getting angry with the soldiers until hundreds of settlers were yelling at them.

Answer:

The colonists fired first, they began throwing rocks and understandably the British fired back but with guns. That's how it happened I may be wrong but that's how I remember it.
