Let oxidation state of V be x

In VO2+

\\ \sf\longmapsto x-2=2

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=2+2

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=+4

In VO_4^3-

\\ \sf\longmapsto x+2(-4)=-3

\\ \sf\longmapsto x-8=-3

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=-3+8

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=+5
