Let the original price be $ x

Now , Set up an equation and solve for x :

\longrightarrow \tt \: 40 = x - 25\% \: of \: x

\longrightarrow \tt \: 40 = x - (25)/(100) x

\longrightarrow \tt40 = x - (1)/(4) x

\longrightarrow \tt \: 40 = (4x - x)/(4)

\longrightarrow \tt \: 160 = 3x

\longrightarrow \tt \: x = 53.33

  • The original price is $ 53.33 .

160 was the original price.
We know this because 25% is the same as I think of it as a quarter 25x4=100
So you would have to do 40x4=160
Your welcome.
