Combining like terms is commonly used to solve algebraic expressions. Like terms are those species or variables that are the same in any algebraic representation.

Different mathematical operations can be performed on like species. We can add, divide, multiply, subtract, factorize, etc those terms.

Take for example;

Solve;

5x + 3 = 4x + 6

To solve this simply collect the like terms;

5x and 4x, 3 and 6 are like terms

5x - 4x = 6 - 3

x = 3

This is one way of solving problems by collecting like terms.
