Mr. Jones is a COPD patient admitted to the hospital with an upper respiratory infection. At the

time of admission, Mr. Jones and his wife requested that CPR not be performed if he needed it. A
DNR order is placed in his record. In his room, he begins to receive antibiotics, IV fluids, and
oxygen and seems to be improving. His oxygen was inadvertantly turned up, causing him to
experience respiratory failure. The therapist found him in respiratory distress and gasping for air.
Should he be transfered to the ICU where he could be placed on a ventilator and his oxygen level
monitored?
Does it make a difference that his condition was a result of medical error? Explain your position.
Be thoughtful and reflective using complete sentences, correct grammar, capital letters, and
punctuation.
