why was slavery was more popular in the Southern colonies than in the New England or Middle colonies?

England’s southern colonies in North America developed a farm economy that could not survive without slave labour. Many slaves lived on Marge farms called plantations. These plantations produced important crops traded by the colony, crops such as cotton and tobacco.
