Why do some formal lawmakers go into lobbying?

One big reason is that lobbyists make much more money. Formal lawmakers, such as senators or representatives, only make around $200,000 a year because they earn a federal government salary. However, lobbyists, who usually work for political organizations or large corporations, can make upwards of $500,000 a year if they are very experienced.
