How is having a sense of place connected to a person’s self-identity?

When someone has the sense of belonging to a certain place, they go through the same experiences as other people living there, allowing the person to relate to the group of people in that area. They may identify themselves as a group and hang out more often in their own clique, having similar interests and opinions due to their similar experiences, thus shaping their identity.
