Researchers have also found that humor can help people remain resilient in the face of adverse circumstances. A Doctor Bonanno for instance, found during an interview that young women who had been sexually abused and were able to laugh or smile while he interviewed them had better chances of getting better than those who did not.

Another research which involved teenage gang members noted that using laughter and humor to deflate a situation can free one of more anxiety thus enabling them to properly analyse situations that they thought too adverse for them with a calmer mind.
