What is kwaishokor and its causes?​

Kwashiorkor is a severe form of malnutrition that is caused by an extreme protein deficiency. It is rare is developed countries, but more commnon in areas where food supply and hygeiene are issues. It is much more common in children than in adults.

It causes swelling under the skin due to the retention of fluids causing a prominent 'pot belly'. It also shows reduced muscle mass, skin problems, infections, brittle hair and nails. It can be fatal.
