A hypothesis is a tentative, testable statement based on inferences. A controlled experiment is used to test hypothesis. It is designed such that the independent (or manipulated) variable is changed in order to observe its effects on the dependent(or responding) variable.

Theory as to what will happen in the experiment. It is essentially an educated guess about what you expect the outcome of the experiment to be.
