Why did people in Germany fear the Schutzstaffel?

Answer:

The Schutzstaffel (also known as the SS) killed really anybody they wanted with little concequence to themselves. Naturally the possibility of being killed and the murdurer getting away with it led German citizens (especially the jewish ones, who were on the Hitlist of Hitler) to be afraid of them.
