The South had many advantages in the Civil war

1.) Defensive war

- Every battle was fought on southern turf, so they did not have to worry about an offensive war

2.) They knew the terrain

- The south knew the land they were fighting on, it was mapped out in the back of their heads. Nothing was a surprise to them on their own turf

3.) They had better communication lines

Since they were not far from home it was easy to communicate.
