Why does 6 over 2=3 (6/2=3?

6/3 can be simplified as 3/1. (dividing both sides by 2 in this case)

3/1 is also 3 divided by 1.
for example if there are 3 pieces, and there is 1 person, that person would get the 3 pieces.
