What is the difference between monotheistic and polytheistic? Please give an example of one religion each that used these different types of beliefs.

A monotheistic religion is a religion that worships a single deity. While polytheism divides the supernatural forces of the universe between many gods, in monotheism a single god is responsible for everything.

A monotheistic religion worships only one god, a polytheistic religion worships many gods. Examples:
Monotheistic: Islam, Judaism
Polytheism: Hinduism, Buddhism
