Why is it useful to write a ratio of fractions as a unit rate?

Answer:

When a ratio is written in fraction form, the fraction should be simplified. If it is an improper fraction, we do not change it to a mixed number. Because a ratio compares two quantities, we would leave a ratio as 41 instead of simplifying it to 4 so that we can see the two parts of the ratio.
