−4x+5y=8

Explanation:

5x - 4y = - 10 → (1)

- 4x + 5y = 8 → (2)

multiplying (1) by 4 and (2) by 5 and adding result will eliminate x

20x - 16y = - 40 → (3)

- 20x + 25y = 40 → (4)

add (3) and (4) term by term to eliminate x

9y = 0 , thus

y = 0

substitute y = 0 into either of the 2 equations and solve for x

substituting into (1)

5x - 4(0) = - 10

5x - 0 = - 10

5x = - 10 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x = - 2

solution is (- 2, 0 )
