I need help finding the subject in this sentence. It asks me to locate the subject and select the verb that agrees with it.

"There (resides/reside) two of the oldest people in the neighborhood."

I am a bit confused here. Is the subject "two" because the other parts of the sentence are part of prepositional phrases? Or is it "people" because "two" isn't specific enough? Or is it "there"?
