Why might have early cultural groups developed along the banks of rivers?

What the first person said is true but rivers also provide forms of transportation. They allow for trading. But most importantly they provided resources and allowed for good farming conditions

Rivers provided food and fresh water, as well as fertile soil that would be suitable for growing basic crops.
