The correct answer is D) thermal energy.

If you have a liquid (water) and you heat the water up, the particles will move more faster and freely. If you were to remove heat, and add coolness to the water, it can become a solid(ice). This means that the particles will have little to no movement. So the more heat you add, the faster the movement of the particles.
