Why did a money economy begin to replace the barter economy in the high middle ages

Imagine if you wanted to buy oranges, you had apples to trade, but the person wanted strawberries. It would be difficult to go and trade and keep trading things to finally get what you wanted. Money would be easier because everyone wants it. and it can purchase almost anything.
