How does the author of the primary source on page 61, or page 33 want us to view Charlemagne?

I need more context, but charlemagne was also known as Charles the great and the author probably wanted you to view him as someone who united most of central/Western Europe. Also someone who was the king of the franks. Plus I’d say they wanted you to view him as a leader and someone who untied places.
