Although animal and plant cells are surprisingly similar, most of the difference between them is in their organelles. For example, plant cells have all the organelles found in animal cells plus:

  • Cell wall - this is a cellular structure outside of the cell membrane that gives structure to the cell, so it can have rigidness and maintain its shape.
  • Chloroplast - this organelle captures the energy from the sunlight and converts it into chemical energy.
  • Vacuoles - (these are present in animal cells too but are very rare) this organelle is common in plant cells and store water, waste products, food, etc.
