True

It is not uncommon for democracies to turn into dictatorships. Prime examples are Venezuela, Egypt, Nicaragua, Weimar Germany, and Chile.

One way a democracy can fall into a dictatorship is when the country's elites feel like democracy does not work in their favor (such as losing an election and forfeiting power), so, they may seek to take over the country by force (Ex.: Trump).

Another way a democracy can fall into a dictatorship is through political polarization.
