Poverty is when essential needs, such as food, shelter, clothes, and education, are unmet. Destitution is a state of extreme poverty where people lack the resources to care for themselves. Destitute people are the very poorest of the impoverished. More comprehensive than extreme income or consumption poverty, being destitute can take many different forms, depending on the situation.
