The numbers are 6 and 2x, then:

  • 1/6 + 1/(2x) = 7/24
  • 1/3 + 1/x = 7/12
  • (x+3)/(3x) = 7/12
  • 12(x+3) = 7*3x
  • 12x + 36 = 21x
  • 21x - 12x = 36
  • 9x = 36
  • x = 4

The other number is 2*4 = 8
