Remember to follow the rule of PEMDAS
Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Substraction

Step one: find the exponent, 2^3 = 8

Step two: do the multiplication, 5 x 8 =40

Step three: add them all together, 8+40=48
