Why would radio telescopes/towers and observatories be best placed away from large population

centers and industry? Be specific.

Less and friend like penetrates to the surface of a higher location is better for those observations

larger observatories are built in remote locations far removed from light pollution. They are also built on high mountains so there is less atmosphere to obscure viewing. ... Less infrared light penetrates to the surface so a higher location is better for those observations
